Hi there! My name is Melis and I'm so glad you've stopped by!

I am the creator, dreamer, seamstress, packager and designer of Salty Champagne. I am originally from Türkiye but grew up as a third culture kid moving all around Asia all the way from Bangkok, Thailand to Beijing, China. Having moved around a lot when I was younger I was exposed to many different cultures, different textiles and shapes. One thing I have consistently been in awe of is how organically different every culture is. Though two countries may use the same 5 ingredients their creations are drastically different.

This observation has overtime led to my personal struggle of trying to find my own path, my own culture and style. Having lived in so many countries I have never felt tied to one place, my home has always been my family. Without a cultural reference to build my style and voice around I have always taken it upon myself to create that culture for myself.

Some of you reading may relate to this directly, whenever I travel I never look into the gift shops or duty free stores but I am always running to local markets, creator shops to find a piece of that place that my soul connects with. Think fish shaped brass doorknobs, Korean Maedeup keychains, seashell rings, ceramic dishes etc.. I have overtime, being extremely lucky to have travelled so much, built an absolute empire of trinkets that I fit into my daily wear, or daily accessories. These pieces consistently remind me of who I am and who I aspire to be.

This is where Salty Champagne came to be. I wanted to design a product that wasn't small, could not get lost in the day to day, was useful, purposeful and could constantly be an accessory that I carried that reminded me of my own culture.

My goal for Salty Champagne is to build a community of creatives that can find a product that is chic, not overproduced, limited, handmade and intentionally designed. By producing such a limited quantity of each design I can ensure my customers that they own something that most likely no one they will meet will ever own, and that's special, that's your culture.
